A 17-day tour that includes Beijing and Xi'an for the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Terracotta Army, but which also includes a leisurely upstream cruise on the Yangtze River and the beautiful scenery of Guilin and Yangshuo. End the tour with five days relaxation on the tropical beaches of Sanya on Hainan Island.

An escorted private tour, using 5-star hotels, with your own local English-speaking guides and car and driver, with daily breakfast and most lunches included.

Day 1 Depart UK.
Day 2 Arrive Beijing. Transfer to your 5-star hotel. Rest of the day free.
Day 3 Full day excursion visiting first Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, the centre of power for China's imperial rulers. After lunch, visit the Temple of Heaven where emperors performed rituals to ensure good harvests. (B, L)
Day 4 Excursion to the famous Great Wall of China, plus the tombs of the Ming emperors. (B, L)
Day 5 Transfer to airport for flight to Xi'an. Transfer to 5-star hotel. Visit the Shaanxi Historical Museum and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. 'Tang Dynasty' song and dance show in the evening evoking the time when Xi'an was capital of China. (B, L, D)
Day 6 Visit to the Terracotta Army, created by China's first emperor to guard his tomb for eternity. Transfer to airport for flight to Yichang and transfer to pier to join your 5-star Yangtze cruise boat for departure later that evening. (B)
Days 7 to 9 Cruise upstream through the Three Gorges, with shore excursions to the Three Gorges Dam and the 'ghost city' of Fengdu or Shibaozhai, plus a trip in small boats on either the Shennong Stream or Daning River, tributaries of the Yangtze. (B, L, D)
Day 10 Arrive Chongqing in the morning. Transfer to airport for flight to Guilin. Transfer to 5-star hotel and visit to the Reed Flute Cave - a huge underground cavern (B)
Day 11 Cruise on the Li River to the small riverside town of Yangshuo, past beautiful scenery of tall limestone peaks and flat rice paddy fields. Lunch served on board boat. Stay at 5-star hotel in Yangshuo. (B, L)
Day 12 Free day to relax or explore the market or shops of West Street before transfer to Guilin airport for evening flight to Sanya, in the south of Hainan Island, China's tropical beach paradise. Transfer to 5-star hotel (B)
Days 13 to 17 Free days to relax on the beach or enjoy the facilities of your resort. (B)
Day 18 Transfer to airport for flights back to UK via Hong Kong, arriving morning of Day 19. (B)

DEPARTURES:

  • Daily departures subject to flight availability and boat schedules.

We use special fares for international flights which help keep the cost of tours to a minimum. These seats are limited by airlines, however, especially at peak periods between April and October, so may not be available at the time of your booking in which case a small flight supplement, or an alternative airline may apply. We therefore advise early booking to avoid disappointment.
