Day 1 Depart UK.
Day 2 Arrive Hanoi. Met on arrival and transfer to the historic Sofitel Metropole Hotel (5 star). Rest of the day free.
Day 3 Morning: visit to the Ho Chi Minh complex (mausoleum, former residence and museum), the One Pillar Pagoda, and Temple of Literature. Then visit Hoan Kien Lake, with Ngoc Son Temple on an island in the centre, plus a one-hour 'cyclo' ride around Hanoi's Old Quarter. Optional water puppet show in the evening.( B, L)
Day 4 Travel by road to Halong Bay. On arrival transfer to your private modern junk. After lunch on board, take the chance to explore some of the bay's limestone caves, or take a swim. Overnight on board. (B, L, D)
Day 5 After breakfast, continue your cruise, with opportunities for swimming or kayaking. After lunch, return to land and transfer to Hanoi airport for flight to Hue. Transfer to Saigon Morin Hotel (4 star). (B, L)
Day 6 Visit to the Imperial Citadel, containing the remains of the Purple Forbidden City that was the centre of power for the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 onwards. Afterwards travel into the countryside around Hue to visit two of the royal tombs. Evening boat trip on the Perfume River. (B, L)
Day 7 Travel by road to Hoi An, via the Hai Van Pass, stopping at the beachside village of Lang Co on the way. On arrival at Danang, visit the Cham Museum and Marble Mountains before checking in at the Victoria Hoi An Resort (4 star). In the afternoon, take a walking tour of Hoi An to visit some of its ancient merchants' houses and temples. (B, L)
Day 8 Free day to enjoy the beach and facilities of your resort, or explore more of Hoi An and the neighbouring area.(B)
Day 9 Excursion to the World Heritage site of My Son, the sacred centre of the Champa kingdom that flourished in the area between the 3rd and 15th centuries.(B)
Day 10 Transfer to Danang airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Transfer to the luxurious Caravelle Hotel (5 star). Rest of the day free (B)
Day 11 Travel our of Saigon to visit the Cu Chi tunnels, created by the Vietcong to shelter from American bombing during the Vietnam War. After lunch, return to the city for a tour to include the former presidential palace of South Vietnam, the War Remnants Museum, and Cholon, the Chinatown district. (B, L)
Day 12 Full-day excursion to the Mekong Delta, travelling to the Vinh Long district for a boat trip through the waterways and river channels to mid-river islands with orchards, plantations and village houses, where lunch is served. (B, L)
Day 13 Transfer to airport for flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia. Transfer to the deluxe La Residence d'Angkor Hotel (5 star). After a late lunch, visit the Rolous Temple group (Lolei, Preah Ko and Bakong) dating from the 8th and 9th centuries. (B, L)
Day 14 In the morning, visit the walled citadel of Angkor Thom, starting at the South Gate, and then visiting the Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas and the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King. After lunch visit the vast temple of Angkor Wat itself. (B, L)
Day 15 Travel out from Siem Reap into the countryside to visit the small temple of Banteay Srei, famous for its carvings. Then return to Angkor to visit Banteay Kdei, Pre Rup, the lake of Srah Srang, and Ta Prohm, engulfed in jungle. At the end of the day climb the temple hill of Phnom Bakheng for a sunset view over Angkor. (B, L)
Day 16 In the morning, drive to the landing stage at Tonle Sap Lake and take a small boat to see the 'floating villages' at the margins of the lake. Return to Siem Reap via woodwork and stone-carving centre and the old market. Afternoon free. (B)
Day 17 Transfer to airport for flight to Singapore, connect to overnight flight to UK, arriving early on Day 18. (B, L)
